The Joint Security Task Force (JTF) in Kano, at the weekend, arrested a suspected Boko Haram insurgent following pre-dawn raid at his residence in Kazaure town in Jigawa State.
The suspect was apprehended after a gun battle .
According to a statement by the spokesman of the JTF in the state, Captain Ikediche Iweha, his arrest followed an extensive intelligence build up.
Three women and three toddlers were removed unhurt from the residence during the raid.
A total of five AK 47 rifles, five magazines and 333 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and various improvised explosive devices were recovered from his residence upon further search.
The statement further disclosed that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a manufacturer of Improvised Explosive Devices and employs his residence as a staging ground for terrorist activities in Kano.
The JTF alerted the members of the public of fleeing terrorists from major theatres of operation in the North-East axis of the country to ‘cooler’ areas due to pressure being mounted on them by the ongoing military operations in these areas.
“Members of the general public are once again enjoined to continue to complement the efforts of the JTF by carrying out thorough checks on the background of persons, who wish to let property, especially in ‘cool zones” or outskirts of major towns” the statement said.
“The efforts of the JTF would not be successful without the cooperation of the residents. The JTF therefore calls on all residents not to relent in the fight against terrorist elements who are seeking refuge by reporting any suspicious persons regardless of gender for immediate action to prevent loss of lives and property.”
